Recipes for Readers

Teach your child basic kitchen skills while feeding their love of reading!  Accompanied by a list of suggested books, these recipes are a great way to keep kids connected to the stories and characters they love.  There are just a few things to remember as you and your reader begin cooking:

    • Some of the recipes will require more parental supervision and assistance than others.  Please do not leave your child unattended in the kitchen.

    • The book list that accompanies each recipe is a suggested list of books which may feature or merely make mention of the food you and your child are preparing.  Please preview the books to determine if they are appropriate for your child to read.

    • Remember to have fun!

Delaware Girl Scout Troop Enjoys the Recipes for Readers Activity

We read the books and made the recipes that were suggested on your web site.   It was lots of fun. We  learned how to follow a recipe, how to be safe in the kitchen,  how to measure ingredients and we also learned about ingredients we had never heard of,  we even learn a few  "new" words such as "Knead the bread" . It was exciting to make all the different recipes! We were even more excited to test taste everything we had made.  But one of the coolest things about the whole "cooking" experience was that "we learned something new and it makes us feel good, smart, and more confident in ourselves. Thanks for suggesting such a neat activity!
